This years XC League finished on December 31 2006, congratulations to Rob Dowdell who
won it in excellent style with a club XC record of 115km!!! See last years results and
previous champions at the bottom of the page.
Now it is time to start clocking up the miles for the 2007 season. If you go
over the back don't forget to send in your flight details.
The way it works is you do the hard job and fly the kilometers. When you
land calculate your distance and pass the information on to me. I log your
best three flights, which go through a formula based on glide angle so that
the paragliders are not at a disadvantage to the hang gliders. At the end
of the season the person with the best score wins! Send your flight details
(Date, Launch Site, Type of wing and Distance) to:

Rules
Only flights in Britain count, the competition starts from the beginning of September
2005 and runs until the day after the Inter Service Paragliding Champs around September
2006. Your top three flights for this period will go on the table. Closed circuit
flights will naturally attract more points. Out and return flights gain twice the covered
distance, Triangles that conform to the FAI rules for a triangle will be worth three times
the covered distance. Flights completed during the Inter-Service champs CAN be used.

The formula that is applied to your flight is essentially essentially a
weighting function. It is the distance from Launch to Landing divided
by a number that relates to your wing's glide ratio.
Divide values: Rigid wings = 1.9, Topless gliders = 1.5, glider with
kingposts = 1.2 and paragliders = 0.8. Therefore if a topless glider flies 10km
the total score for that flight is 6.7 points, if a paraglider also flies 10km
they will score 12.5 points. So a paraglider will get more points for the same
distance.
Flights must be legal, ie not through air space, danger areas etc... and they should be able to be
proven by either some sort of witness, GPS or swearing on the bible, obviously unless it is blatantly
bull***t you will get the benefit of the doubt.
